The NExT Region Creative Problem Solving Organization
Thank you to everyone and Congratulations to every team that participated in DI this year. It is the journey of practicing and doing DI that improves so many life skills. Results are: Challenge A: Operation Cooperation, Challenge B: Instinct Messaging, Challenge C: ViDIo Lit Hits, Challenge D: Private DI, Challenge E: A New Angle, and DI eXtreme. If you have qualified the information you need is here. Please contact John Stromp if you have any questions, 214-316-0300.
The NExT Regional Tournament is on Saturday February 28th at Plano Senior High School. Tournament Director Michelle Spangler has emailed all of the team managers with details about the tournament and the schedule. These letters, for each challenge, can be downloaded by clicking one of the following links: Challenge A letter, Challenge B letter, Challenge C letter, Challenge D letter, Challenge E letter, and Rising Stars letter. Also, each team may want to review the Travel Guide for Teams which can be downloaded here.
Thank you to all of the volunteers and teams that made the Instant Challenge Scrimmage a lot of fun. The Team Score sheets were distributed at the awards ceremony. If you did not pick them up, you can pick them up when you check in at the Regional Tournament for your Instant Challenge, or you can request your scores (without your sticky notes) by email from John Stromp. The ranking results of all teams can be found in here and also in a word format.
Challenge C teams:
Please read the Copyright Section of the
Rules of the Road, page 27, as referenced in the
challenge,
Section A.1.c. Be aware that even though the
challenge just mentions use of pre-recorded music, that copyright
laws include music, characters from literature and exact quotes from
literature as well, all outlined in the Rules of the Road.
It is illegal to use or reproduce copyrighted material without the
owner’s permission. If a team is concerned about a copyright
infringement, it should do a thorough review of copyright. Team
Managers and/or schools are responsible for helping team members
determine if any material is copyrighted and how to obtain
permission of the copyright holder. This type of assistance is not
outside interference, and is, in fact, encouraged.
There is a list of 10 ADDITIONAL Sleuths (for a total of 20) for teams to choose from for their solution to Challenge D: Private DI. This list of additional Sleuths is now available as a Published Clarification here.
Additionally, we have received several queries
(recently and in past seasons) about internet usage and the
responsibilities of a Team Manager in overseeing internet research.
We have provided the following statement as a Published
Clarification for all Challenges:
“The Internet offers a tremendous amount of information and positive educational benefits. The use of the Internet for research also comes with the risk of children being exposed to objectionable content or content more sophisticated than appropriate for their age. Destination ImagiNation expects that children will have adult supervision if they use the Internet as they work to solve their Challenge. It is not Interference for responsible adults to audit and limit team members’ Internet research. Adults can disallow team members from researching or using characters or situations they deem inappropriate for the team members’ ages or circumstances. Adults can disallow a team from working on a Challenge the adult deems inappropriate for the age or sophistication level of the team.”
