NExT Region 2007 Scholarships
Announcing your NExT Scholarship!
NExT
Region CPSO is happy to announce the continuance of collegiate scholarships for
graduating high school seniors with an active history in creative problem
solving! The number and amount of scholarships issued are dependent upon the
number of successful candidates that apply, but they will be in the range of
$500 to $1000.

The filing period for the 2007 scholarship
applications is Feb. 2 through April 2, 2007.
A summary of minimum requirements you must
meet to be able to apply for these scholarships follows:
- You
must live in the NExT Region, or attend a school in the NExT region.
- You
must graduate from high school by July 31, 2007, and you must be
college-bound as a full-time student by October 1, 2007.
- You
competed in at least 1 creative problem-solving tournament in the last 4
years (2004-2007). Note that it is permissible that you competed in a
region other than the NExT Region.
- You
also meet at least 1 of the following requirements (not necessarily
performed within the NExT Region):
1.
You competed in creative problem
solving tournaments in all of the last three years (2005-2007), or
2.
You have a life-time history of
competing in at least 5 creative problem solving tournaments, or
3.
You have a lifetime history of
either competing in, managing/coaching, judging, or volunteering for at least 7
creative problem solving tournaments.
- Click here for an HTML format (a Web Page) for reviewing now. Since we do not
require the Instructions to be returned with your Application, you may
also print the instructions from this link and use them to assist in
completing the forms.
The Application forms are provided in the
following formats. Note that since these must be printed and returned in the
layout that we designed, we do not provide an HTML format (a Web Page) for the
Application forms. Web Pages are notorious for printing in any size, alignment,
page margins, fonts, etc., other than what was originally intended. Please select
one of the links below to acquire your Application forms:
- If
you have Microsoft Word '97
or later installed on your computer, RIGHT CLICK
here and chose Save As. (If you don’t right click you may be asked for
a password – just cancel the request for password and the download should
continue.)
This is a template (filename ending with ".dot"); not a
document. It has fields for you to enter your information, along with
check-boxes, drop-down lists, etc., to make it easier to complete them. We
recommend this format over the other two, as you can also save your work
to your disc drive. This makes it easier to complete part of the forms,
save your work, do something else, and come back later on to finish. It
also provides you with an electronic copy of what you submitted to the
NExT Scholarship Review Board (though you may also wish to photocopy your
originals that have your signature on them).
Download this template, save it to your
disc drive, and then double-click it in your Windows Explorer to start using
it. Once you've entered information into the forms from within MS Word, click FILE/SAVE
AS and give your document a unique name (save it as a "Word Document"
that ends with ".doc"). Later on, open the file you saved and work
with that file; do not open the template as it will simply give you a new,
completely blank document. For printing purposes, our forms were designed
with a .5" margin on all 4 sides - duplicate this in FILE/PAGE
SETUP before attempting to print.
- If
you have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0.5 or later installed on your computer, click here for
a copy of the forms in Acrobat format. Acrobat is designed to deliver
documents that look as much as possible as the original intent, and do so
across multiple computer platforms. If you do not have a PC running some
version of Windows ('95 or later), or even if you do but you do not have
MS Word '97 or later, then use this format. It provides input fields for
you to supply your information, but the remainder of the text on the forms
is frozen. While this format may prove to be easier to complete than the
3rd choice below (i.e., by hand), please note that Acrobat Reader does
not permit you to save your work! Therefore, we recommend that, if you
choose this format, do the following:
1.
Print the forms before filling
them out.
2.
Write your information onto the
printed forms.
3.
Either send the handwritten
forms to us, or reopen the Acrobat document and complete the forms in one
setting, using your printed version as a reference. Then, print the results,
sign them (make a copy for yourself) and send us the "neat" version. Do not walk away from your computer when using Acrobat Reader
to complete the forms! If Acrobat Reader is closed for any reason,
all of your work will be lost! (This is why we recommend the MS Word format
if you can support it.)
Click here to obtain a copy of the Acrobat Reader from
Adobe if you do not already have version 5.0.5 or later installed.
Note: Unlike the Reader, if you have the full
Adobe Acrobat version 5 product (a purchasable product that permits creating
Acrobat forms), you can save your work. If this applies to you, we
recommend using the Acrobat form over the MS Word form, but choose whichever is
best for you.
